NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — A 44 year old North Olmsted man charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the shooting deaths of his wife and son appeared in court Monday and was ordered held on a $5 million bond. Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser appeared by video from the North Olmsted jail Monday, September 21, 2026, in Rocky River Municipal Court. An Arabic interpreter assisted him during the roughly 30 minute hearing. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Judge Thomas Kelly bound the case over to a Cuyahoga County grand jury for possible indictment. Kelly set bond at $5 million cash surety. The judge said the amount was necessary and appropriate in light of the nature of the allegations, the serious conduct involved, and the significant threat posed to immediate family members. Al Naser must also surrender his passport to North Olmsted police.

The court issued temporary protection orders covering surviving family members, including six minor children. The youngest of those children was born in 2023. Al Naser is barred from contact with the children while the case is pending. When told he could not see the children, Al Naser asked the judge whether they would be able to visit.

The judge replied that they would not during the pendency of the matter. Al Naser also told the court there were some words he could not understand. Authorities say the shootings occurred Saturday, September 19, 2026, at a home in the 3800 block of Evelyn Drive. North Olmsted police reported that dispatch received a 911 call at about 2:10 p.m. from a person saying a neighbor had shot his wife and son.

Neighbors also reported hearing gunshots, shouting, and a commotion at the residence. Officers and firefighters responded to a chaotic scene, according to North Olmsted Police Lt. Matt Beck. They found an 18 year old male outside the front of the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

First responders treated him at the scene and an ambulance took him to a local hospital. Beck later confirmed the 18 year old died. Inside the home, officers found a 42 year old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the woman as Al Naser’s wife and the 18 year old as their son. Officials have not publicly released the victims’ names. Investigators described the event as an isolated family incident. Officers took Al Naser into custody without incident and booked him into the North Olmsted City Jail.

Some reports stated that police recovered a handgun at the home. Firefighters and officers from neighboring communities assisted at the scene. Al Naser is charged with two counts of aggravated murder. He has been in custody since Saturday.

If convicted, he could face life in prison. No specific date has been announced for grand jury action or a later appearance in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Investigators have not released a possible motive. Police have said the motive remains unclear and the investigation is ongoing.

Beck said a language barrier has complicated parts of the inquiry. Police said about seven children lived in the home. Surviving children were taken to another residence and described as safe. Defense attorney John Powers told the court Al Naser is a United States citizen who has lived in the country for more than 10 years.

Powers said Al Naser previously worked as a translator for the United States military during the Iraq War and has no prior criminal record. North Olmsted Police Chief Bob Wagner later said such incidents are a reminder that domestic violence can escalate quickly and that anyone experiencing threats or abuse should seek help and contact law enforcement. Wagner also expressed condolences to the affected families and to first responders.
